Martin Anfinsen.
I started Thinkering because the people who inspire
me and the projects that I want to be involved in
are not concentrated in any one organisation. My
substantive experience is in healthcare, but my
passion lies in the structures, processes, and
interactions that create sparks of excellence in
organisations, and particularly how we address the
introduction of AI into those spaces.
Most recently I was Head of Healthcare Funding at
Bupa, where I led the first major rebuild of the
insurer's acute hospital funding model in over a
decade. Across 13 years in Australian private health
I have worked on both sides of the insurer-provider
relationship: contract management and funding
strategy roles at Bupa, Ramsay Health Care, and
Honeysuckle Health, and four years leading Bupa's
claims analytics team. My earlier work was in
clinical audit and claims integrity.
Before all of that I was a registered nurse,
including a period when I worked in Arnhem Land. In
hindsight, that is where I did my most important and
memorable work.
I hold degrees in nursing, journalism, humanities
and international relations. I'm also a cancer
survivor.
